I did rewrite my /usr/local/bin/ script because my old blaster operated from /dev/lirc1. For the blaster, I selected "MCEUSB Dish". I did slightly tweak the ~/.lirc/Mythtv config file to change a couple button assignments. I selected the "phillips et al" from Mythbuntu's 8.10 selection of known remotes and that worked. The included IR Blaster and USB connected remote worked. Pros: Works with the drivers/firmware supplied 2.6.27 Linux Kernel and contained in Mythbuntu version 8.10. I would recommend this Tv Tuner to others. Here at my apartment all channels come in perfectly. At my parents house the lower channels were all fuzzy, but that probably had to do with a bad signal. The only setup I have tested is plugging a cable wire into the analog tuner on the card. After a lot of work I managed to get it working pretty much flawlessly with MythTv in Ubuntu. Overall Review: The setup on Windows XP was a breeze, but my goal was to get it working in Linux.
Like all other TV tuners I've used, it also takes slightly longer to change a channel than it does a normal television. It also seems to get pretty hot when in use, so make sure your computer has good ventilation. Took many hours of browsing through help forums to get it working.

If it doesn't require power then it isn't a converter - it is just a simple adapter and will not do the job. If you want to get higher quality than Composite, then it will be necessary to use mains powered RGB to S-Video converter.
